Programs and ActivitiesMilk Quality Research ProjectThe WDGA is very excited to have pledged support for a milk quality study to be conducted during the summer of 2008 under the guidance of Pam Reugg, Professor of Dairy Science at UW-Madison. Pam Reugg's milk quality research is known and respected internationally and we are thrilled to be able to work with her on this project. This study will be the first of its kind in the US to provide baseline data on dairy goat milk quality.
Share-A-Kid ProgramAny youth wishing to own a registered dairy goat kid is encouraged to apply to the selection committee in the spring. WDGA members donate registered kids to this program. Students receiving these kids are expected to display their animal at their county fair or a youth show. It is a great opportunity for youth to start their dairy goat programs. For more information contact:
State Dairy Goat ShowThe WDGA sponsors an ADGA (American Dairy Goat Assoc.) sanctioned dairy goat show each year where participants compete for ribbons and recognition of their animals. This show moves about the state, and is hosted by local dairy goat clubs. Caprine Field DayA Caprine Field Day is held in November at Arlington Research Station (Arlington WI). There are four main presentations, informational displays, a goat kid auction, and a youth program. The presentations are directed at commercial producers and hobbyists. There is something for anyone raising goats, as well as those who have an interest in goats. Wisconsin State FairWDGA is active at the Wisconsin State Fair with many of its members showing dairy goats, competing in the milking competition and for DHIA awards. The dairy goat show is ADGA sanctioned with fees paid by WDGA. Members also help staff the Dairy Goat Products booth at the Wisconsin State Fair. This booth gives members an opportunity to promote dairy goat products and meet the public. |
