Welcome to the Wisconsin Dairy Goat Association
Above: Sunshine Sector Bobbit The Wisconsin Dairy Goat Association website is a comprehensive source of information for anyone interested in goats from commercial dairies to hobby farmers to 4-H and FFA students. Greetings from WDGA President Randy Adamson
It seems hard to believe its mid-February already! I think this winter has been colder than past winters. Or I could just be getting older. There was a time when I loved winter, cold and snow. Now I don¡¦t care for snow at all. And I can¡¦t stand the cold. My dad use to say, "It should snow on Christmas Eve and then start warming up". Not a bad idea. For many, February is the start of kidding season. The time of year we get to see if the "matchmaking" we did last fall will work out. It¡¦s also a time for thinking and planning. Planning what goat shows you might try to attend. Thinking of what changes we might try with your management. It¡¦s also a time for planning for WDGA. I have met once with the Board of Directors and will meet again later this month. We have several topics to work out, including: The 2010 Doe Kid Raffle, this was very successful fundraiser last year and should be done again. -Finalize plans for the Badger State Show in May. -Decide what we are going to do with the video on Wisconsin's Dairy Goat Industry. This was shown at State Fair last year but needs to be shown at a better place and time. -There is talk about hosting the 2013 National ADGA Show in Wisconsin. If you have suggestions or would like to help out with any of the above, please contact a board member or myself. **It was decided at the fall meeting that WDGA would have this years fall meeting in conjunction with a "Field Day" type event. We could have a Fall Meeting in the morning and have a speaker in the afternoon. This would help bring back the "family" feeling to WDGA fall get-together. There was talk of holding it at Arlington again. There is a large rent cost with Arlington so we are talking about other possibilities. We will need people to come forward and form a committee to put this together, I will not have time to work on this! I also just learned that Jeanne Meier is no longer with DATCP, but now working through DBIC on the Dairy Goat Project, please be advised she has a new email and phone number. WDGA needs your help to volunteer with some of its programs, please contact a board member and let them know where you can help. I need to cut this letter short because February is also the start of kidding season in our commercial herd. We started kidding January 28 th and as of February 10th we have had over 90 kids. Right now we have 47 doe kids to feed, so I have to go!Take care, Randy WDGA Officers President Vice President Secretary Treasurer queenslandfarms@yahoo.com Newsletter Editor New Web Master Youth Representative Directors |
