2009 Focus on Goats and Caprine Field Day

REVIEW:  Again this year, the Wisconsin Dairy Goat Association sought sponsors for the conference.  This year’s sponsors included Badgerland Financial, BC-USA, Inc., Land o’ Lakes, The Scharine Group, AgSource Cooperative Resources, GreenOak Equipment, Coburn Company, Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association, Cargill, National Livestock Producers Association, Sheep & Goat Fund; Dairy Business Innovation Center, the Dairy Business Initiative, (DATCP), provided monetary sponsorship.  The University of Wisconsin-Platteville provided in-kind sponsorship.  The conference was held on October 10 and 31, 2009 at the Sinsinawa Conference Center, Sininawa Wi.

The two-day conference drew attendee from Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Canada.  Speakers came from Colorado, New Mexico, Florida, Iowa and Wisconsin.  Over 225 attended the conference over the 2-day period and heard presentations on herd health, milk quality, use of drugs, tracking finances, problems-solving, raising kids, utilizing lighting to synchronize breeding, nutrition, and a meat goat round table, among others.  The annual Select Sire and Dam Sale by the Wisconsin Dairy Goat Association was also head at the event.  The conference included general sessions and break-out sessions.
